Day 9

Today we have 5 kids at the crisis nursery- but it feels like 10! All morning there were crying and yelling. One little boy is very aggressive, cries a lot, and has lots of medication which needs to be monitored. Another girl had to have her hair fixed and she screamed for the entire time. There are 2 little babies that need almost constant attention, and one 6 year old boy who managed to be like easiest of the whole group. To entertain everyone, we took turns holding the babies, playing games with the toddlers, and making snack and lunch. On the bright side, the morning went by quickly and the youngest 2 kids (1 month and 6 months) were SO adorable!
After lunch, the kids go into their rooms for a long quiet time to watch movies. At this point we clean and wipe down the surfaces and toys, have lunch, and relax a little bit.
Although the work is difficult, the kids are so cute and happy (most of the time), and the job is very fulfilling. It's amazing how the volunteers and staff manage to come to work with such a positive attitude each and everyday, especially considering they aren't required to do so. I'm having a lot of fun so far, especially because there are other volunteers my age, and I'm learning a lot about how to work with the kids!
